About EduSpots Ghana

Despots is a forward-thinking, impact-driven UK and Ghanaian-registered charity dedicated to fostering community-led education. By empowering grassroots educators—known as ‘Catalysts’—we establish and sustain ‘Spots’, local education hubs that serve as catalysts for transformative change. Our mission is to cultivate a global movement where communities collectively shape the futures they envision through accessible, community-driven learning.

Since our establishment in 2016, we have collaborated with over 400 Catalysts—local educators and change-makers who lead the growth of our network. Together, we have established 50 community-led education hubs, empowering communities to own and drive their own educational initiatives. Our work is building a scalable, globally relevant model for community-driven education, supported by a robust network engagement framework. Explore our model of change in greater detail here.

Headquartered in Ghana, our team designs and delivers three dynamic leadership programs for Catalysts: Ignite, Catalyze, and Inspire Mentoring. These programs, increasingly delivered via the Despots app, equip Catalysts to lead transformative learning initiatives such as Eduardo (early years’ education), Digit (digital literacy), Ecosystem (science, technology, engineering, and environmental education), and Ignite Equity (gender equity) clubs for learners aged 3–16. In addition, Catalysts run locally designed projects that reach more than 10,000 learners annually across all age groups. Delve into our 2023 Annual Report and recent independent evaluation for deeper insights.

We are currently experiencing a period of rapid growth and strategic expansion. In the past two years, our income, program scope, and reach have more than doubled, with an independent evaluation by Expectation State further validating the impact of our model. Our innovative approach has earned us selection into two accelerator programs, where we are exploring opportunities to scale our impact. Over the coming period, we aim to expand our network by an additional 50 Spots, effectively doubling our reach.

Our achievements have been recognized globally, including the prestigious Te’s International Award in 2018, the Big Give Supporters’ Choice Award in 2022, and a finalist position in the 2023 Their World Scale-Up Innovation Prize. In 2021, our Founder was named a Finalist in UNESCO-backed The Parka Foundation’s $1 million Global Teacher Prize.

We are energized by the road ahead. For more information, visit www.eduspots.org.
