"Empowering communities for dignity and self-determined futures."
Spark MicroGrants envisions a world where all individuals live with dignity and shape their own thriving futures. With a presence in over 1,350 villages across seven countries, the organization has established itself as a leader in community-driven development in sub-Saharan Africa. By collaborating with NGOs and government partners, Spark scales its innovative model to empower rural communities—on their own terms. The model integrates guided community workshops with flexible, small-scale grants to spark local initiatives and strengthen grassroots institutions. Our Work
At the heart of our methodology is the Facilitated Collective Action Process (CAP), a structured approach that empowers rural communities through facilitated discussions to plan, design, and execute local development projects, supported by microgrants. Designed to uplift livelihoods, foster social cohesion, and deepen civic participation, the CAP reflects our commitment to inclusive, bottom-up progress.
Our operational framework relies on an international network of functional specialists—including finance, training, design, and monitoring and evaluation experts—who provide strategic support to country teams. These country teams, in turn, co-create the CAP with local partners and government stakeholders, deliver training, and ensure rigorous quality control and oversight. The composition and focus of each country team are tailored to meet the unique needs of our partners.
