JOB DESCRIPTION:

• The initiative involves implementing the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Carbon Project, aimed at optimizing water use and enhancing carbon sequestration in agricultural systems.

Situated in the Greater Accra, Volta, Northern, and Upper East Regions, this position requires on-site presence.

Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, to whom the position reports.

Oversee the execution of project initiatives within the designated region, guaranteeing that all deliverables align with approved work plans, established timelines, allocated budgets, and recognized carbon standards, including Terra, Gold Standard, and other pertinent certification frameworks.

Assist in deploying and promoting Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable rice production methods among enrolled farmers.

Engage rice farmers, Water User Associations (Was), community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure active participation and seamless project execution.

Organize and lead training sessions, demonstration plots, and farmer field learning activities focused on sustainable agriculture, crop management, efficient water use, Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) practices, and other climate-smart interventions.

Facilitate the installation, ongoing monitoring, and maintenance of AWD tubes, sensors, and additional field technologies, while also providing support for the deployment and utilization of digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems.

Coordinate the collection of field data and supervise the tracking of soil organic carbon (SOC), greenhouse gas emission reductions, water usage, crop yields, farm management practices, and additional project metrics essential for carbon accounting and verification processes.

Maintain precise project records, databases, and documentation while adhering to carbon certification mandates and established project reporting frameworks.

• Develop and sustain productive collaborations with regional offices of GINA, District Assemblies, traditional leaders, farmer associations, community stakeholders, and project collaborators.

Prepare and submit accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that comprehensively document project progress, field activities, success stories, lessons learned, as well as challenges encountered and milestones achieved.

Provide assistance throughout project validation and verification processes, as well as during audits, ensuring the completion of all necessary reports and documentation. Coordinate with project partners, carbon certification bodies, auditors, and validators to meet their specific requirements and regulatory standards.

Proactively assess potential implementation risks, devise effective mitigation strategies, and facilitate the efficient resolution of operational challenges to ensure seamless project execution.

Ensure adherence to environmental and social safeguards, donor mandates, project-specific policies, and all relevant regulatory and carbon market standards.

Supervise and mentor field officers, community facilitators, enumerators, and other relevant project staff to uphold high standards of project execution and successfully attain established project goals.

Candidates must possess strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel or SQL is essential, along with a solid understanding of project management principles. Experience with CRM systems, such as Salesforce, is highly desirable. The role demands exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. Familiarity with digital marketing strategies and SEO practices would be advantageous. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and professional certifications are a plus.

A Bachelor’s Degree in disciplines such as Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development, Climate Change, Agricultural Engineering, or related fields is required.

A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is an additional asset.

A minimum of five years of professional experience in agricultural development, climate change mitigation, natural resource management, rural development, or closely related initiatives is required.

Applicants should demonstrate prior involvement with agricultural collectives, cooperative organizations, or irrigation management systems.

• A proven track record in climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, or sustainable land management practices is required.

Applicants with prior involvement in carbon initiatives, greenhouse gas accounting, or certification frameworks such as Terra and Gold Standard will receive preferential consideration.

• Demonstrates exceptional ability to engage stakeholders and mobilize community initiatives effectively.

• Exceptional ability to prepare detailed reports and maintain thorough documentation.

Demonstrates proficiency in monitoring, evaluation, and data management systems.

Proficient in utilizing digital data collection tools and mobile applications to gather and manage information efficiently.

Demonstrates strong self-motivation and the capacity to execute tasks effectively with minimal oversight.

• Requires frequent travel to various project communities.
