Context and justification

Supported by the European Union, Corinth initiated the Gold for Good project in northern Ghana earlier this year, focusing on enhancing conflict-sensitive governance, environmental accountability, and institutional coordination in regions impacted by artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). The project seeks to bolster the operational capabilities of local authorities, security personnel, and regulatory bodies, fostering responsible natural resource stewardship and harmonious community relations.

To maintain technical and operational preparedness, Corinth is seeking a Technical Coordinator – Peace and Security to oversee security measures, enforcement protocols, and conflict prevention strategies within this upcoming initiative.

Overseeing a wide range of critical duties, the ideal candidate will develop and implement strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while driving operational efficiency. This role demands meticulous attention to detail in project management, fostering collaboration across departments to achieve collective goals. Additionally, the position requires rigorous financial oversight, including budget preparation, cost analysis, and performance tracking to optimize resource allocation. Strong leadership skills are essential to mentor teams, delegate responsibilities effectively, and maintain high accountability standards. Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, the Technical Coordinator for Peace and Security will deliver technical expertise, oversee coordination efforts, and ensure quality control in matters concerning security governance, law enforcement collaboration, and conflict-sensitive artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) management.

This individual will collaborate with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders to establish coordinated, rights-centered, and trust-enhancing enforcement and oversight mechanisms for natural resource governance.

Provides strategic technical leadership and oversees cross-functional coordination, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and fostering collaboration among teams to drive project success.

We provide specialized training programs and ongoing technical assistance to enhance operational capabilities and ensure sustained performance improvements.

• The position is offered for a fixed-term contract spanning a duration of 12 months.

As a direct report to the Operations Manager, this position entails providing comprehensive oversight and strategic direction to ensure operational excellence and efficiency across all facets of the organization. Offer expert technical advice regarding the technical aspects of peace and security within natural resource and artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) governance frameworks.

Direct the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of diagnostic evaluations, capacity assessments, and institutional analyses within designated districts.

Facilitate seamless collaboration among law enforcement, environmental protection, and regulatory agencies to bolster accountability and optimize operational outcomes.

• Develop and implement diagnostics, trainings, action plans, and tools that adhere to stringent technical and methodological standards throughout the project lifecycle.

To guarantee the consistent incorporation of conflict sensitivity, human rights principles, gender considerations, and environmental safeguards within all interventions, this role requires proactive attention to cross-cutting priorities.

Provide assistance in establishing and implementing inter-agency coordination mechanisms, involving District Assemblies (DISEC’s), District Municipal Councils (DMCs), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Minerals Commission, the Police, Immigration, and traditional authorities.

Provide appropriate assistance in integrating project outcomes into district and national frameworks, such as ASM Action Plans, DMC structures, and EPA monitoring systems.

Responsibilities include conducting thorough evaluations of technical reports, training materials, and consultant deliverables to ensure their accuracy and compliance.

• Responsible for designing and implementing customized training initiatives for professionals in enforcement, environmental, and governance sectors.

Facilitate and coordinate technical workshops and training-of-trainers sessions as needed to deliver exceptional educational outcomes.

Offer technical guidance and mentorship to district-level institutions such as District Management Committees (DMCs), District Inspectorates of Schools and Examination Centers (DISEC’s), and Assemblies.

Provide assistance during interagency field operations, inspection missions, and environmental monitoring activities.

Ensure methodologies are grounded in community engagement, underpinned by human rights principles, and tailored to address the specific security and governance circumstances of the local area.

• Ensure thorough review and validation of all technical outputs, training materials, and consultant deliverables.

Provide technical support for the monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) system by conducting systematic data collection and performing detailed analysis.

Document and share insights on effective enforcement strategies and community engagement best practices to foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Facilitate the ongoing enhancement and adaptive management of intervention strategies to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.

• Serve as the primary liaison between Corinth, academic collaborators such as Mat, regulatory authorities, and local organizations on technical issues.

To effectively transform field data, assessments, and research findings into actionable operational recommendations.

Prepare comprehensive mid-term reviews and final evaluations grounded in factual evidence, documenting key lessons learned to inform future initiatives.

This is a temporary contract position.

A fixed-term appointment of twelve months is anticipated for this position.
