JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAA is actively recruiting skilled, seasoned, and driven Electrical – Instrumentation Technicians, Radio Technicians, and Auto Electricians to strengthen our team. This fixed-term contract position is based in Quasi and offers a dynamic work schedule at its operational site. The compensation package comprises a competitive salary along with performance-related incentive bonuses for qualifying candidates.

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of radio communication systems and associated equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to regulatory standards. Conducts routine inspections to identify and resolve technical issues, performs upgrades as needed, and maintains detailed records of all service activities. Collaborates with engineering teams to troubleshoot complex system failures and implements solutions to minimize downtime. Must possess strong problem-solving abilities, proficiency in diagnostic tools, and a solid understanding of radio frequency principles. Requires experience with VHF, UHF, and microwave communication systems, as well as familiarity with digital and analog signal processing. Compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations is mandatory.

Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the ideal candidate will oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communication systems and equipment critical to mining operations. This position plays a vital role in sustaining clear and reliable communication among operational teams, thereby enhancing safety protocols, operational efficiency, and on-site coordination.

Oversee a broad range of essential duties and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. Execute critical tasks with precision, maintaining high levels of efficiency and accountability in all assigned functions. Collaborate across departments to streamline processes, enhance productivity, and foster a cohesive work environment. Manage responsibilities with a focus on continuous improvement, adaptability, and adherence to established policies and procedures. Demonstrate leadership by guiding teams, delegating assignments, and monitoring performance to achieve measurable outcomes. Prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines while upholding quality and professionalism in every endeavor.

Install, configure, and validate the functionality of radio communication systems, encompassing handheld radios, base stations, repeaters, antennas, and related components.

Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on radio communication systems to verify and sustain their optimal operational performance.

Diagnose and resolve radio communication equipment issues in a timely manner.

Replace or restore defective components to mitigate operational interruptions and ensure continuous system functionality.

Update and maintain the firmware and software for communication systems whenever upgrades or patches become necessary.

Monitor radio frequency (RF) networks to detect any interference and verify adherence to regulatory standards.

Ensure precise documentation of equipment inventory, repair activities, and maintenance timetables.

Deliver comprehensive training and technical assistance to users of radio communication equipment.

Ensure communication devices are operated and maintained correctly to maximize their operational lifespan and reliability.

Ensure strict compliance with all safety protocols and regulatory standards when operating communication equipment.

Ensure adherence to both local and international communication regulations and best practices.

Ensure operational safety by strictly following all established mining safety protocols, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to prescribed safety guidelines to mitigate the risk of accidents.

Attend safety meetings and actively contribute to fostering a secure work environment.

Prepare a range of daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed to support operational and strategic objectives.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering from an accredited university, coupled with at least five years of professional experience in Hard Rock Underground Mines. Alternatively, a Diploma in Electrical/Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering is acceptable, provided the candidate demonstrates a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in the same mining environment.

Applicants are required to hold a valid Ghanaian driver’s license for both Class C and Class E vehicles and demonstrate proficiency in operating manual transmission SUVs in underground environments.

Experienced in radio communication systems, including VHF/UHF radios and RF equipment.

Demonstrates exceptional ability to interact and collaborate with both operational and non-operational staff, including contractors, leveraging advanced communication and interpersonal skills to drive engagement and influence.

Proficient understanding of the Mining Act and its associated regulatory frameworks within the Republic of Ghana is essential.

Individuals should possess a working knowledge of signal analysis tools and diagnostic equipment.

Demonstrated proficiency in reviewing and comprehending technical manuals and schematics.

Demonstrates a capacity to rapidly acquire new skills and effectively instruct, support, and guide team members in their development.
