The initiative centers on the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Carbon Project, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices to optimize water usage and enhance carbon sequestration.

Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, to whom all updates and deliverables must be communicated promptly.

Oversee the execution of project initiatives across the designated area, verifying compliance with approved work plans, schedules, budgets, and recognized carbon standards—including Terra, Gold Standard, or other pertinent certification frameworks.

Support the rollout and adoption of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable rice production methods among enrolled farmers.

To foster active involvement and collaboration, the incumbent will engage rice farmers, Water User Associations (Was), community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring their participation in and contribution to the successful execution of the project.

Organize and lead training sessions, demonstration plots, and farmer field learning activities focused on sustainable agriculture, crop management, efficient water use, alternate wetting and drying (AWD) practices, and other climate-smart interventions.

Facilitate the installation, ongoing monitoring, and maintenance of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) tube systems, sensors, and related field technologies. Support the deployment and utilization of digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to enhance operational efficiency and data accuracy.

Coordinate the collection of field data and ensure the monitoring of key project indicators—including soil organic carbon (SOC), greenhouse gas emission reductions, water usage, crop yields, and farm management practices—to support accurate carbon accounting and verification processes.

Maintain meticulous project records, databases, and documentation in adherence to carbon certification mandates and established project reporting protocols.

• Foster and sustain productive partnerships with GINA regional offices, District Assemblies, traditional leaders, farmer associations, community stakeholders, and collaborating organizations.

Prepare and submit comprehensive weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, encompassing project progress updates, field activity reports, success stories, lessons learned, as well as detailed documentation of challenges and achievements—all within established deadlines.

• Support project validation, verification, audit processes, and the preparation of reports and documentation required by project partners, carbon certification bodies, auditors, and validators.

• Assess potential risks in the implementation process, create and execute appropriate mitigation strategies, and provide assistance in resolving operational challenges efficiently.

• Maintain adherence to environmental and social safeguards, donor stipulations, project policies, and all relevant regulatory and carbon market standards.

Supervise and mentor field officers, community facilitators, enumerators, and other relevant project staff to uphold high standards in project execution and successfully meet established project goals.

Required competencies include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data management and reporting. Strong analytical skills are essential for interpreting complex datasets and generating actionable insights. Effective communication abilities are necessary to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings clearly. Experience with project management tools, such as Asana or Trello, is preferred. Familiarity with SQL or other database query languages is a plus. The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is critical. Attention to detail and problem-solving aptitude are also valued traits.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development, Climate Change, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.

A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is advantageous.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in agricultural development, climate change initiatives, natural resource management, rural development, or comparable projects.

Professional rewrite:

Demonstrated experience collaborating with farmer groups, agricultural cooperatives, or irrigation scheme management teams is required.

• Background in climate-smart agriculture, regenerative farming practices, or sustainable land management methodologies.

Extensive travel capability within project communities is required.
