JOB DESCRIPTION:

• The Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Carbon Project focuses on implementing sustainable agricultural practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while optimizing water use efficiency in rice cultivation.

Professional locations where the role will be based include the Greater Accra, Volta, Northern, and Upper East regions of Ghana.

• Accountable to the Project Manager for all assigned tasks and deliverables.

Oversee the execution of project activities within the designated region, guaranteeing alignment with approved work plans, established timelines, allocated budgets, and recognized carbon standards, including but not limited to Terra, Gold Standard, or other applicable certification frameworks.

• Support the implementation and adoption of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable rice production practices among participating farmers.

Engage and mobilize rice farmers, Water User Associations (Was), community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure active project participation and seamless implementation.

Organize and lead training programs, demonstration plots, and farmer field learning sessions focused on sustainable agriculture, crop management, efficient water use, alternate wetting and drying (AWD) practices, and other climate-smart interventions.

Facilitate the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of AWD tubes, sensors, and other field technologies, while also supporting the deployment and utilization of digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems.

Coordinate the collection of field data and manage the monitoring of key project indicators—including soil organic carbon (SOC), greenhouse gas emission reductions, water usage, crop yields, and farm management practices—essential for accurate carbon accounting and verification.

Maintain precise project documentation, databases, and records in strict adherence to carbon certification mandates and established reporting protocols.

Develop and nurture productive partnerships with GINA regional offices, District Assemblies, traditional authorities, farmer organizations, key community stakeholders, and project collaborators to ensure cohesive and effective project implementation.

Prepare and deliver accurate, timely weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that comprehensively document project progress, field activities, success stories, lessons learned, and both challenges and achievements.

• Facilitate project validation, verification, audit processes, and the compilation of reports and documentation necessary for project partners, carbon certification bodies, auditors, and validators.

Identify and evaluate potential risks that could arise during implementation, then devise and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to address them. Additionally, actively assist in resolving operational challenges to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.

Ensure adherence to environmental and social safeguards, as well as donor stipulations, project guidelines, and all relevant regulatory and carbon market frameworks.

Supervise and mentor field officers, community facilitators, enumerators, and other relevant project staff to uphold high standards of project execution and successfully meet project objectives.

Demonstrated proficiency in relevant technical or functional competencies, including strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, is essential. Candidates must possess exceptional organizational talents alongside meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all tasks. Effective oral and written communication proficiencies are critical, as is the capability to collaborate efficiently within interdisciplinary teams. Prior experience with specific tools, software, or methodologies pertinent to the role is highly advantageous. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability in dynamic work environments is expected.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development, Climate Change, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.

A Master’s Degree in a discipline pertinent to the role will be viewed favorably.

With a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in agricultural development, climate change initiatives, natural resource management, rural development, or closely related fields, you bring a strong foundation to this role.

Proficiency in collaborating with agricultural collectives, cooperative associations, and irrigation initiatives is required.

• Demonstrates expertise in climate-smart agriculture, regenerative farming practices, or sustainable land management strategies.

Applicants with prior involvement in carbon projects, greenhouse gas accounting, or familiarity with certification frameworks such as Terra, Gold Standard, or similar systems will be highly preferred.

• Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in stakeholder engagement and community mobilization.

The candidate must demonstrate exceptional proficiency in crafting detailed reports and maintaining thorough documentation.

Possesses a solid understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and data management principles and practices.

Proficient in utilizing digital data collection tools and mobile applications.

Demonstrates strong self-motivation and the capacity to operate effectively with limited oversight.

• Capable of undertaking substantial travel across project communities.
