JOB DESCRIPTION:

UMAA is seeking to employ qualified, experienced, and motivated Electrical – Instrumentation Technician, Radio Technician and Auto Electrician to join our Team. This is Obuasi based Fixed Term Contract position with a competitive work roster at its operation in Obuasi. Radio Communication Technician

Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing radio communication systems and equipment used in mining operations. The role ensures seamless communication between operational teams to support safety, efficiency, and coordination on-site.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of essential duties and responsibilities integral to the role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and strategic priorities. This encompasses managing core functions, leading key initiatives, and maintaining operational excellence through meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of assigned tasks. Additionally, the position requires active participation in decision-making processes, fostering collaboration across teams, and upholding high standards of professionalism and accountability in all operational activities.

Install, configure, and validate the performance of radio communication systems and equipment, which encompasses handheld radios, base stations, repeaters, antennas, and related components.

Perform regular preventive maintenance and thorough inspections of radio communication systems to verify and uphold their optimal operational performance.

• Diagnose and resolve issues with radio communication equipment promptly.

Replace or mend defective parts promptly to mitigate operational interruptions and sustain productivity levels.

Regularly assess and update firmware and software components within communication systems to ensure optimal performance and security adherence.

Oversee radio frequency (RF) networks to identify and mitigate any interference while maintaining adherence to all applicable regulatory standards.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, repairs, and maintenance schedules.

Deliver comprehensive training sessions and technical assistance to users of radio communication equipment.

Ensure the appropriate use and care of communication devices to maximize their durability and performance.

• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with communication equipment.

Ensure adherence to all relevant local and international communication regulations and guidelines.

• Ensure safety by adhering to all mining safety protocols and using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents.

Attend safety meetings regularly and actively engage in efforts to maintain a secure workplace environment.

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports in compliance with established requirements and schedules.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of three years of professional experience in a relevant field is essential, along with proficiency in industry-standard software tools. Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges effectively. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Additionally, experience with project management methodologies and a track record of meeting deadlines are highly valued. Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools is preferred, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development is expected.

• Must possess a minimum of BSc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognized University with mini- mum of 5 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering with minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines.

• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and able to drive manual SUV underground.

• Demonstrated expertise in radio communication systems, VHF/UHF radios, and RF equipment.

• Proven capability to effectively communicate and collaborate with operational and non-operational employees as well as contractors, leveraging strong interpersonal and influencing skills.

Applicants are required to possess a comprehensive understanding of the Mining Act and its associated regulatory frameworks within the Republic of Ghana.

Possesses expertise in utilizing signal analysis tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.

Demonstrated skill in analyzing and comprehending technical manuals and schematics is essential.
